Studio-Build
This four month project was centered around exploring the potential of new or reintroduced construction methods, tools for construction, products to enhance construction methods, products to improve a structure’s life cycle, environmental impact, and livability/usability.
This studio focused on cast-in-place concrete construction methods and solutions.

Research and Experience
In order to learn more about concrete construction, the studio collaborated with Auburn University's school of Building Science as well as local contractors for guidance.
Using the knowledge of the experts and numerous in person visits, the studio divided its research into different groups in order to learn the most efficiently.

Explore in Every Direction
As the research process brought forth new problems, sketch iteration aimed to solve them.
From basic tools to complex full-site systems, every idea was explored and investigated.
The Lighting Dilemma
This research and iteration process sparked a problem that I decided to pursue further:

Temporary lighting is a huge problem in concrete construction as work is frequently started early in the morning and ending late at night, usually in areas that have limited electricity.
I wanted to find a way to light up a space temporarily, in a way that did not require a bulky spotlight, or string lights which are hard to adjust.
Eventually, I found a solution.
The Goal
A portable lighting system using rope/string lights for ultimate flexibility.

Does it work?
In order to test the validity of my claim, I tested multiple physical prototypes for several promising ideas, ending with a working full scale model, adjusting ergonomics and parts along the way.

Aesthetic Refinement
Once the mechanical problems were solved, I explored a few aesthetic variations, using sketchwork and CAD to find an aesthetic that would strike the balance between a rugged construction tool and a modern consumer product.

Reelux is a flexible and portable temporary lighting solution that provides illumination for any situation.

Reelux's portability and ease of use provides instant flexibility when it comes to lighting problems. With up to 50ft of light, Reelux can temporarily light up a room for an entire night.
Reelux's rugged plastic shell provides cover from falling objects, and its easily removable battery can be recharged easily when not in use.
Equipped with magnetic hooks attached to the body, this rope light can be strung up on structural beams, or nailed to drywall and gypsum board.
Reelux has uses beyond just construction, ranging from camping, temporary events, or even emergencies.
